"Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path"
The above readings are usually the ones which are read in Church each Sunday morning, so if you are not in Church, do take your Bible and look at the readings for the appropriate week. It's unusual for all four to be read; it will normally be either the Old or New Testament reading and the Gospel. It's also quite common for the Psalm to be read by the congregation in the version found at the back of the hymn book: for example, for 11 December 2011, Psalm 126 can be found at number 879 in Hymns & Psalms. Please note that not all preachers follow the Lectionary readings, especially if a special service is taking place that day. Full details of all Bible readings from the Lectionary can be found in the Methodist Worship Book, starting on page 566. An explanation of the Christian calendar and the Lectionary can be found on pages 519 and 521 of the same book. Daily Bible Readings, for personal prayer, study and meditation, can be found in a variety of devotional books including "Light for our Path" and "Words for Today" published by the International Bible Reading Association. |
